Six Metro-North trains were canceled from New Haven to Grand Central during the morning peak on Friday.
This is after a downed power line disrupted Metro-North New Haven Line service Thursday evening, halting multiple trains between Southport and Fairfield, according to the MTA.
“A hundred Metro-North employees worked throughout the night to make repairs and restore service. A review to determine what happened and why is in preliminary stages and ongoing,” said spokesperson Meghan Keegan.
Fairfield fire officials reported receiving a call just before 5 p.m. after a Metro-North train struck a power wire near Post Road in Southport.
The loss of power in the area also caused service between New Haven and New York to be suspended for hours on Thursday. The issue also affected Amtrak trains.
Officials say two trains carrying approximately 850 passengers were stranded on the tracks and safely evacuated. Passengers were transported to Green's Farms Station.
Officials also said power was restored to an Amtrak train on the route to New York City.
