A federal judge has delayed Kosta Diamantis' second bribery trial by seven months, giving prosecutors additional time to bring the former Connecticut budget official back from Greece.
Diamantis, a former deputy budget director under Gov. Ned Lamont, has been in Greece for more than a month after failing to appear for sentencing in his first federal corruption case. Despite his absence, a judge sentenced him to seven years in prison on Sept. 30 after a jury convicted him of demanding bribes in exchange for multimillion-dollar school construction contracts.
Federal authorities are continuing to work with Greek officials to extradite Diamantis to the United States. The delay pushes back his second bribery trial, which had been scheduled for December.
Diamantis is also appealing his seven-year prison sentence while remaining outside the country.
