The City of Bridgeport will roll out a major funding package aimed at its classrooms.
Mayor Joe Ganim says the city secured $35 million in bond funding to rebuild the Jonathan Winthrop School.
He says it's part of a 10-year, $1 billion blueprint to rebuild every old school in Bridgeport.
"This makes me feel great. My commitment to education and the need to rebuild the schools, in this case, the first $35 million towards Winthrop in the North End and others schools, is going to go a long way to what I think is the top priority, our students and rebuilding the structures, making them state-of-the-art," Ganim said on Sunday.
He adds that he expects construction on the first project to begin within the year.
