The Damato family who lives in Downtown Stamford says they are on edge from witnessing the aftermath of a fight shortly before 7:30 p.m. Sunday evening.

Andrea Damato says she and her kids saw the line of police cars racing down Summer Street towards Main Street and West Park Place, and decided to go see what was happening.

"It was really loud, it was dark and you could see it reflect off all the windows," remembers Damato.

Along with their neighbor from the building, Damato says the family found not just police cars, but also two ambulances, with one person covered in blood, and another getting their neck put in a brace.

"You're thinking like it's nothing that big, but then you really see like oh snap, it's actually big," said 10-year-old Violet Damato. "That got me really freaked out."

People who were working in the area when it happened tell News 12 off camera that a group who had been drinking for a few hours starting fighting in the parking lot next to Curley's Diner, before things spilled out on to the sidewalk in front of multiple businesses.

The Damatos say when they arrived, one person who looked like they were getting arrested was screaming at police.

"He was just screaming 'I didn't do anything - it's this guy's fault', and then another guys' waiting for them," said Luca Damato, who is in middle school. "The whole thing was just crazy."

Police tell News 12 that two people were arrested, while a victim sustained facial injuries.

"I got no sleep, because I was scared," said Violet. "Imagine being a kid and you're seeing that? It was terrifying."

While it does not happen every weekend, and they are not usually as big, other businesses and people living in the area say that fights are a fairly regular occurrence on the block.

"Wherever the bars are and alcohol is, I see some fights and police activity for sure," said Andrea, who agreed that block often draws extra attention.

Almost everyone who News 12 spoke with said there usually are police stationed outside the bars, after Sunday's fight, the Damatos say they would not mind seeing a few more.

"I got so worried, because I don't feel like feel that safe," said Violet. "I know we're in a good place, but I'm worried - am I not safe right now?"

"Definitely now I'm going to want to go with an adult at night," agreed Luca, "because you never know, something could happen."
